Siviero celebrates the 120th anniversary of the Teatro Amazonas

20 Oct Siviero celebrates the 120th anniversary of the Teatro Amazonas

The Teatro Amazonas, located in the center of Manaus, inaugurated in 1896, is the most significant expression of the wealth of Manaus during the rubber cycle. With its Renaissance style and bearer of a richly adorned dome, it has become one of the most famous monuments in Brazil and a Manaus most prominent symbol. With seating capacity of 700 people, distributed in the audience and its balconies, its corridors are richly decorated with baroque features. The painting of the ceiling “The glorification of the Fine Arts of the Amazon” is by the Italian artist Domenico de Angelis, who was also responsible for the painting of the hearing chamber. The ornaments on the columns of the ground floor are homage to some famous classical composers and playwrights, such as Molière, Rossini, Mozart, Verdi, among others.

Among the celebrations of this sacred space of Brazilian music promoted by the Amazon State Secretary of Culture, the recital of the pianist Alvaro Siviero – who had landed in the city of Manaus directly from Warsaw, where he had performed several recitals – was one of the highmarks. The recital, which took place on October 19, attracted a large number of lovers of good music. In the repertoire, works by Rachmaninov, Chopin, Schubert, Liszt and Brahms.

During the Amazonian days, Siviero had the opportunity to deepen its culture and local geography, to get to know the famous meeting of the rivers Negro and Solimões, to visit indigenous tribes and visit the famous pink dolphins.
