17 Mar Siviero is the soloist in Piano Concerto n.1 by Tchaikovsky, in Campinas

As director of the Moscow Conservatory, Nikolai Rubinstein persuaded Tchaikovsky to write for him the celebrated Piano Concerto n.1 in B flat minor, Op.23. According to what says Tchaikovsky in his letters, Rubinstein was not impressed with his work and conditioned its premiere performance to the condition of being rewritten by the composer.

Tchaikovsky refused and the work was premiered by another pianist, Hans van Bulow. Tradition says that Rubinstein affirmed that the concert would have too many notes. There is also talk that says that Tchaikovsky, at the end of the work, was quoted as saying that if the soloist interpreted as due, he would win and would overlap the orchestra.

That was the work chosen for the 2015 season opening by the Orquestra Sinfônica de Campinas, under the baton of Luis Gustavo Petri. Teatro Castro Mendes received a crowded audience that quickly occupied the seat places. “It’s a very risky piano concerto, not only because its technical difficulties but also because it demands from the soloist to jump inside the “pool”: there is no gradual time to adapt to the sound emitted by the orchestra.

The presentation, widely reported in the media, was of great musical impact on the life of the city of Campinas that, for the second consecutive time, receives Siviero for its season of concerts.
